Dacheng the largest law firm in the People's Republic of China and PLMJ the leading Portuguese law firm have a Cooperation Agreement since mid-2010, under which PLMJ has deployed a Portuguese International Senior Associate to work in Dacheng's Beijing offices, Susana Santos Vitor.
The alliance between Dacheng and PLMJ was recently boosted by the extended visit of PLMJ Founder and Managing Partner Luis Sáragga Leal to various Dacheng offices throughout China.
This occasion was used by Dacheng for the presentation of its new International alliances with law firms in Portugal and Chile, in particular through an international Conference, which signals Dacheng's clear positioning as regards international cooperation beyond Asian countries.
Mr. Wang Zhongde, Dacheng Managing Partner, stressed to the press that, in the context of the alliance with PLMJ, Dacheng in now able to extend its offer of qualified legal services to Chinese investors in most Portuguese speaking countries, such as Angola, Brazil and Mozambique, where PLMJ already operates an International Network of national independent law offices, sharing the same values and the policy - "Think Global, Act Local".
During his visit to Beijing, Mr. Luis Sáragga Leal participated in a Conference at Dacheng's offices with a presentation on "Doing Business in Portuguese Speaking Countries". Mr. Xu Yongqian, Dacheng's Senior Partner responsible for SOE and Business Development, subsequently addressed the subject "Evaluation of Legal Risks in Foreign Investments". Dacheng's Associate from Chile, on the other hand, presented an overview of the legal environment for investment in Chile, in particular for Chinese investors. The conference was attended by a large number of senior executives and legal counsels from major SOE and Chinese companies and representatives of the Portuguese and Chile Government.
In the following days, Mr. Sáragga Leal, with various Dacheng partners, held working meetings with Chinese SOEs and large private groups which have expressed a significant interest in cross border investments in those countries, particularly in the areas of oil and gas; energy; mining and natural resources; large construction or infrastructures projects; IT and telecommunications.
Mr. Xu Yongqian added to the media that Dacheng is thus continuing its consistent internationalization policy, supporting Chinese SOEs and large industrial and financial groups investing and operating abroad, now also in Portuguese speaking countries in Southern Africa.
After Beijing, Mr. Sáragga Leal will continue his professional trip to Hong Kong and Macao.
