On December 19, 2013, a United Nations Millennium Development Goal China Week event—Donation of Collections by Chinese Collectors and 2013 China Collectors Annual Meeting—was held at the Banquet Hall of Beijing Hotel. Dacheng senior partner Qian Weiqing was named one of the Top Ten Chinese Collectors and his Tang Dynasty gilt spiritual-snake-incarnate Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy) sculpture was selected as one of the Top Ten Chinese Bronze Treasures. Mr. Qian was also awarded a gold medal for his contribution in China’s cultural relic preservation, a mission embedded in the United Nationals Millennium Development Goal.
In recent years, out of a fondness for traditional Chinese culture and ancient art, Mr. Qian has collected quite a few pieces of ancient Chinese artworks, some of which are highly recognized by experts in the collection world. Being the only legal professional among the top ten collectors, Mr. Qian not only takes part in all kinds of events related to antique collection, but also engages in legislative activities such as the revision of China’s Cultural Relics Protection Law as well as the practice of law. He has represented collector Fu Changyong in litigating damages from BTV and its TV host Wang Gang and has represented family members of the famous painter Shi Lu in claiming back works held by Beijing Googut Auction Company. Mr. Qian is also legal advisor for more than ten art institutions, including National Museum and China Association of Collectors. His involvement in the art world helps promote the social influence of Dacheng.
