On August 24, 2017, supported by China Region tax group and Beijing office investment M&A group, Dentons Beijing office played host to a lecture on the tax system, tax consequence of foreign investment and immigration tax planning in the US.
The lecture aims to boost cross-border collaboration on tax, and drive the development China Region’s international practice.
Rich Williams, the lecturer who is also a senior tax partner from Dentons New York office, presented an overview of US Federal Tax System, and talked in depth about some of the tax consequences of foreign investment and immigration. His presentation was warmly received by the audience
The morning session revolved around different types of taxes that exist in the US where Mr. Williams shared with us some facts about computing income tax, scope of application of US tax laws, judicial branches in the US, and US tax consequences for inbound and outbound transations.
In the afternoon, in light of Chinese investors’ continued enthusiasm in US real estate, Mr. Williams gave a brief presentation on US Taxation of foreign investment, and pre-immigration tax planning and post-immigration tax compliance. The lecture was concluded with a Q&A session at the end.
