Posting Date: 2018.05.09

In an effort to enhance professional ties with overseas law firms, and drive cross-border business collaboration, particularly in dispute resolution, with senior partner Yin Xiuchao’s assistance representatives from Dentons Beijing's dispute resolution group met the delegation of Maitland Chambers from the UK in Beijing on 9 May 2018.

With 70 barristers, including 29 Queen’s Counsel, Maitland Chambers is one of the leading sets of barristers' chambers in the UK that boasts extensive experience in commercial dispute resolution, and a solid track record in providing dispute resolution services across a whole range of areas, such as corporate matters, mergers and acquisitions, banking and finance, bankruptcy, trust, real estate and construction, and engineering It offers legal advice and has abundant experience in representing dispute matters across courts and tribunals in the UK, Middle East, Europe, South-east Asia and other jurisdictions

The delegation includes senior clerk John Wiggs, Andrew Ayres QC, John McGhee QC, Duncan McCombe junior counsel, and Oliver Phillips junior counsel . They had an in-depth conversation over legal practice with Raymond Zhu, Yuechi Wang, and Feng Wang from Dentons Beijing office.

Maitland hopes to work with Dentons China in work referral, training, marketing and business development. Our Beijing office started by welcoming the Maitland delegation and responded by saying that building a sound and long-term work relation is a mutually beneficially way to expand international practice. As Maitland’s clients have increased their investment portfolio in China, they are seeking to strengthen business ties and explore collaboration opportunities with Chinese law firms. Dentons, a reputed firm both in China and internationally, is one of their key targets.  Both sides agreed that Maitland Chambers’ QCs will come back our Beijing office again later this year for a seminar on international litigation and arbitrationm, in support of Dentons China’s dispute resolution practice.

QCs are experienced barristers who usually have practised for more than 10 years, and are appointed by the Queen after a rigorous selection process. Two-way training and business exchanges will help promote specialization and internationalization of out dispute resolution practice. To further collaboration, especially in training, Raymond Zhu plans to visit Maitland Chambers in London later in May.
