Dentons China Participates in “Training and Education for Lawyers in West China” Scheme

On 18 May 2018, Zhang Yanzhen and Hu Zhanshan, respectively the director general and secretary general of China Legal Aid Foundation, together with Miao Lin, the director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice, attended the signing and donation ceremony of “Training and Education for Lawyers in West China” Scheme in Beijing. This five-year scheme, advocated by Beijing Legal Aid Foundation and initiated by Dentons China and 9 other law firms, will benefit lawyers across 11 provinces or regions in West China, such as Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, and Xinjiang.

This charitable cause aims to address the imbalance of legal aid and legal resources between East and West China, and demonstrates the leadership that lawyers in the capital has displayed in helping broaden the horizon and build the capacity of lawyers in less privileged areas in China. It is also part of the effort to nurture legal service and legal aid talent, and improve rule of law in West China.

50 individuals will be selected from Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang and Xinjiang production and Construction Corps for each of the month-long training and education program in Beijing spanning 5 years. All law firm involved donated RMB 4 million for the scheme, and each will bear the training and other relevant costs for 5 participants coming to Beijing for the training.
