Third Annual Dentons Cup Dispute Resolution Competition officially launched

On July 6, the “Boost Development of the Western China Law Center by Arbitration” Forum and the opening ceremony of the Third Annual Dentons Cup Dispute Resolution Competition was held in Chengdu.

Under the guidance of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Justice and the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Justice, the forum was sponsored by Dentons China, and organized by Dentons’ Chengdu office and Dentons China Dispute Resolution Committee. China Academy of Arbitration Law, China Arbitration Institute of China University of Political Science and Law, and Chengdu Arbitration Commission provided academic support for this forum.

With the theme of “standardizing and improving credibility & efficiently facilitating development”, the forum attracted more than 200 experts, scholars, arbitrators, lawyers and in-house counsels from all over the country. Dentons senior partner Yang Shuwen hosted the forum.

At the opening ceremony, Wang Qiang, Deputy Director of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Justice, Cheng Shoutai, President of the Sichuan Lawyers Association, and Wang Zongqi, President of the Chengdu Lawyers Association expressed their congratulations on this forum and the competition.

Ma Jiangtao, senior partner and Chairman of Dentons China Region Management Committee, delivered a speech on behalf of the sponsor, while Liu Shoumin, head of Dentons Sichuan office and senior partner, addressed the session on behalf of the organizers.

At the forum, Liu Shoumin and Wang Yu (senior partner, Beijing), jointly kicked off the opening ceremony of the Third Annual Dentons Cup Dispute Resolution Competition. Wang Yu participated in the First Annual National Lawyers’ TV Debate Competition and won the “Group First Prize” and “Individual Best Professional Knowledge Award”. He will serve as the chief commander of the competition.

In 2015 and 2017, Dentons China successfully held two sessions of Young Lawyers Moot Court Competition. Building on the previous successes, we innovatively hold contests in both mock arbitral tribunals and moot courts. A number of senior professionals in the arbitration field were also invited to deliver speeches on the forum. Wang Ruichen (Secretary General of Southwest Branch and Sichuan Branch of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission), Chen Jian (Full-time Secretary General of China Academy of Arbitration Law), Zhang Youjun (Deputy Head of Publicity and Development Department of Chengdu Arbitration Commission), Zhang Guohua (arbitrator of Chengdu Arbitration Commission and General Counsel of China MCC5 Group Ltd.), Zou Zhiqiang (Vice-Chairman of Dentons China Region Management Committee and senior partner of Dentons Shanghai office), Wang Junqiang (senior partner, Chengdu) and Huang Jiayu (partner, Chengdu) all delivered a speech.

In addition, Jiang Lili, Vice-President of China Arbitration Institute of China University of Political Science and Law, made a keynote speech on the theme of “Critical Role of Lawyers in Building a Commercial Arbitration Ecosystem – From the Perspective of Arbitration Credibility Assessment”. Zhang Zheng, Vice-Chairman of Dentons China Region Management Committee and Deputy Director of the Arbitration and Mediation Committee of the All China Lawyers Association, gave a speech on the theme of “Understanding the Difference and Achieving the Same Goal – Multidimensional Views of the Commercial Arbitration’s Legal System”.

The development of arbitration work can contribute to the establishment of an international, legal and convenient business environment and the further development of China’s economy. During this forum, we invited many senior professionals from both the theoretical and practical circles to give keynote speeches, and many participants stated that the speeches were very instructive.
