Dentons lawyer Matthew Bly recognized among Public Utilities Fortnightly’s Fortnightly Under Forty 2020

 Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, today announces that  Public Utilities Fortnightly  named Matthew Bly to its Fortnightly Under Forty 2020. Bly is a managing associate in Dentons’ Energy practice.

The list recognizes young professionals (under the age of 40) in utility regulation and policy who stand out as the next generation of leaders. Bly is one of 64 selected nationally, and one of only two from law firms. The nominees come from 27 industry organizations, including investor-owned utilities, technology groups, rural electric cooperatives and professional firms.

Bly has earned a reputation in the utilities industry for sophisticated legal counsel and strategic dispute management. His knowledge of energy industry rules, regulations, trends and precedents has made him a sought-after advisor to a diverse set of clients. He recently represented one of the largest wholesale generation and transmission cooperatives in the US in its transition to becoming a public utility under the jurisdiction of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Bly currently serves as chair of the Energy Bar Association’s State Commission Practice Committee, and he co-authored both the 2018 and the 2019 State Commission Practice Reports published by the Energy Law Journal.

Bly has served as a key advisor to numerous clients that include public power entities, municipalities, rural electric cooperatives, states and state agencies, large energy users, independent power producers, Native American tribes, trade organizations and grid-edge technology companies. His clients’ matters have come before the FERC, the Department of Energy, the Department of Agriculture, the Courts of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and various state regulatory commissions.
